Katazome and Natural Dyes, Indigo Shibori workshops at Maiwa

Here is a blog of Maiwa Textile Symposium. http://maiwahandprints.blogspot.com/
This is a wonderful group and I love their concept to preserve arts and crafts traditoion, and restore to support for local artisans and crafts people.  It would not easy in this modern world, but it is very valuable and meaningful.
I was fortuntelly invited to teach two workshops and to speak the lecture.  I gave so much information for the Katazome and Natural Dyes class (because it is complicated process), however, all students challenged and accomplished so well!  It was my true reward.  Indigo Shibori class was also very intense and the students made a lot of lovely patterns with indigo Shibori.  -akemi cohn
We dyed madder, cochineal, and cutch with rice paste resist throuh Katagami(mulbery paper hand-cut out stencil paper)

We used natural indigo dye pot.
We did Itajime, Nui, Arashi and more different types of Shibori on Maiwa's organic cotton.

The paper sculpture was made by Barbara Cooper and it was folded, stretched, then various flodings.  The dancers are carrying the paper sculptures.

Since the event started from 7pm,it getting dark.
The projection of light on these sculptures was just lovely!
