katazome & natural dyes
I cut new design of stencil paper. I cooked rice paste (sweet rice flour & special rice bran). Then applied it onto the stencil paper. The paste is like a sticky peanuts butter. When I lift the stencil paper up, the image is on the fabric throughout stencil paper. Suspended the fabric with bamboo stretchers. Wait until the paste to dry. While waiting, I prepared natural dyes to boil, simmer to get extract. This process is called "KATAZOME" and this is a traditional Japanese printing technique on fabric. It has been used for printing on kimonos for over 300 years in Japan.
